Fall TV Catch-Up Guide: 'Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'

When's It Back? Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 9 p.m. on ABC

Where We Left Off: S.H.I.E.L.D. is in ruins; Hydra infiltrated every level and everyone is a possible traitor. That is, except for Agent Coulson: Nick Fury made him the new director of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Skye has been promoted to agent status, which is good. Fitz may have suffered permanent brain damage, which is bad. Ward may be looking for redemption, which is good. May still wants to put her fist through his chest, which is bad. Oh, and that GH-325 that brought Coulson back from the dead now has him up at night scrawling weird patterns on the wall. Which is probably bad.

What We Know About Season 2: They will hit the ground running. In the very first episode, we'll see two new agents, one played by Nick Blood and the other by Xena star Lucy Lawless. Major Talbot and Agent Koenig (Adrian Pasdar and Patton Oswalt) are back, and supervillain "Crusher" Creel — aka The Absorbing Man — will keep things interesting.

Peggy Carter (last seen in Captain America: The Winter Soldier) will also be in the season premiere, laying the groundwork for her new series, Marvel's Agent Carter, premiering on ABC in January. She'll be accompanied by two of the Howling Commandos, Jim Morita and Dum Dum Dugan. Also, later in the season, look for Adrianne Palicki's debut as Bobbi Morse — aka Mockingbird.

Our Burning Question: What is Coulson doodling up on that wall? Is it a Kree annihilation device? A circuit board to build Ultron (the next Avengers movie villain)? The formula for a very, very good car wax for Lola?
