The Internet has been freaking out about Disney Channel's spin-off of ABC's classic '90s sitcom Boy Meets World, and now, a year-and-a-half after rumors of the revival first started back in 2012, Girl Meets World is almost here (premieres Friday, June 27 at 9:45 p.m.).
Yahoo TV visited the show's set to talk to Cory and Topanga themselves (Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel), who are now happily married and living in New York, raising a son Auggie (August Maturo) and daughter Riley (Rowan Blanchard), who is the show's titular "girl." And just like Cory always had his best friend Shawn (Rider Strong) around to shake things up, Riley's best friend Maya (Sabrina Carpenter) is the fun-loving troublemaker in this new series.
A fun twist: While Mr. Feeny (William Daniels) provided Cory with a lot of coming-of-age wisdom on the original show, it's now Cory, aka Mr. Matthews, who's teaching school and life lessons to his daughter's class. But Mr. Feeny is still around... and maybe really famous? Watch our set visit interviews to see what kind of message Mr. Feeny is giving to them — and all of New York City — every single day:
Boy Meets World fans will love it for the where-are-they-now nostalgia, but Girl Meets World is for a whole new generation.
While the show will still balance Riley's life at home and school, giving her little brother and parents plenty of time onscreen, it'll mostly be about her coming of age, finding her place in life, having crushes on cute boys, testing her boundaries, and everything else that girls go through in middle school.
WIlliam Russ, Betsy Randle, and Rider Strong are all returning for this next chapter, reprising their roles as Cory's parents Alan and Amy Matthews, and Cory and Topanga's best bud Shawn. Other guest stars include Jane Lynch, Jackee Harry, and legendary Oscar-winning actress Cloris Leachman, who was filming the day we were on set.
