The Emmy nominations voting has begun, and while we can predict some of the usual awards season favorites, we have a few of our own picks — first-time nominees and under-the-radar picks alike — who deserve the honor this year. We're highlighting seven of those stars with video mash-ups of their best work, for your consideration.

Fox's The Mindy Project just keeps getting funnier. With a huge ensemble cast of characters, everyone has their "thing," but Chris Messina's role has truly evolved for the better since the show began. He's now bringing so many levels of hilarity to the table as Dr. Danny Castellano, he deserves some recognition.

Danny started as a gruff and rough-around-the-edges foil for Mindy's (Mindy Kaling) antics, but as he became more of a romantic lead for the show's heroine, we got to see his softer, goofier, more romantic side, as well as some shining moments of brilliant physical comedy. Take a look at our mash-up of a few favorite moments:

Danny's Christmas present for Mindy — learning the music video choreography to Aaliyah's "Try Again," one of Mindy's favorites — was the start of something magical on the show. Since then we've seen Danny proudly don bright red reading glasses (often worn on a neck chain, connecting magnetically in the middle, of course), get drunk and fight with a cactus, look on with horror at an art show featuring nude portraits of himself, and run like hell to a Boss soundtrack to meet Mindy at the top of the Empire State Building (with just a few taxi cab near-misses along the way). We've also seen Danny take his fair share of slaps from Mindy... when they're not going at it in a simultaneously adorable and totally hot way.

Even for a comedic actor, some of Danny's quips would be tricky to nail, but Messina — who's always been better known for his dramatic work — pulls them off with ease while adding a nice dose of sex appeal. The Emmy voters probably don't factor in lip plumpness when they're rating and ranking comedy prowess... but maybe they should?
