We picked up Monday night's episode with the final one-on-one date in Des Moines. Chris and Becca are an interesting couple. Becca, who we know is a virgin but Chris doesn't, is very conservative. This hasn't seemed to hurt their relationship — rather, it seems to strengthen it. They have been moving slow but Chris seems to feel very comfortable with Becca. She's sweet and kind and he really appreciates that in her. The big question with Becca is, does she know exactly what she wants in life? As we learned on her hometown date, she's never been in love. Her family was shocked to see that she was even holding hands with a man. That has to worry Chris. He's a 30-year-old man who knows what he wants in life and in a wife. Is Becca going to be able to be that woman if she doesn't even know what it feels like to be in love? These are huge questions, but what Chris does know is he really likes this girl and wants to spend more time with her to find out the answers.
After Becca's hometown, Chris visited Whitney in Chicago. Now here's a woman who knows who she is and what she wants. Chris was so impressed with her as she showed him around the fertility clinic. He really loved how much pride she takes in her job. One of the sweetest moments this season was Chris stopping to ask Whitney whose permission he should seek, should he want to propose in the future.
Turns out it's her sister Kimberly. I have absolutely no problem with how Kimberly answered Chris when he asked for her blessing. I don't think it was a knock on Chris or on Whitney; I think it just showed how much Kimberly loves Whitney and how protective she is of her. Whitney became the first girl this season to flat out tell Chris she's in love with him. It was a powerful moment and that really felt like a game-changer. It feels like the season has taken a very serious turn.
Kaitlyn is Canadian, but her family enjoys the milder weather down south in Phoenix so that's where her hometown date took place. Here are a few things I know to be true about Chris: He's a great guy, but damn he can't dance, sing, or rap. The boy just has zero rhythm. As the recording studio date showed, Kaitlyn is fun and easy to be with, and she always makes Chris laugh. He truly enjoys her company. Now here's the big question with Kaitlyn: Did she say she loves Chris? Yes, she lit up a billboard that said Kaitlyn "hearts" Chris — but does that count? I say no! It's one thing to show him something or write it, but it's another to look him in the eye and say it. So I'll only give her credit for half an "I love you."
Jade's was clearly the most pivotal hometown date this week. Chris had no idea about Jade's past and that she had posed nude for Playboy. This has been an issue for Jade in the past; you can see it had an effect on her family and you could tell she's had to deal with this in prior relationships. So it was with great trepidation that Jade told Chris about the pictures and videos. In my opinion, Chris handled it like the gentleman he is. It was a tough situation, but he really made Jade feel OK about it. Now the truly awkward part for me was when she asked Chris if he wanted to see the pictures. This is where Chris got forced into a no-win situation. What could he possibly say? The two of them looking at the pictures and videos together was so incredibly awkward. Again, what could he say in that moment? "Hey, nice lighting"??? I'm sure he couldn't have gotten out of there fast enough.
Overall, I don't think that was the reason Chris ended up saying goodbye to Jade in the end. He really did judge her for who she is and not what she did years ago. Their relationship just didn't compare to the other relationships he has now. I'm sure many will think that it was the nude pictures that pushed her out, but I don't believe that's the case — and I hope Jade doesn't think that either. He really thinks she is a great woman, but they just didn't have that chemistry together.
After Jade, the other big story this week was the rise and fall of Britt. Never have I seen a woman fall so far, so fast on this show. She was a clear frontrunner, but man did she shoot herself in the foot — or maybe the heart, in this case. I don't know if Britt was playing a game with Chris but if she was, she lost.
I look forward to discussing all this with Britt at the Women Tell All special that's coming up. Did she believe that when push came to shove, Chris would beg to take her back? Her mistake wasn't playing hard to get — that would've been fine. Her fatal error was disrespecting Chris time and time again, especially the last time when she did it in front of the other women. That was the straw that broke the rose. (Isn't that the saying?) Again, I really want to hear Britt's side of the story, because she and Chris seemed to have such a strong relationship, and it was remarkable to watch it crash and burn the way it did.
Before we put a bow on this two-night extravaganza and get some rest I want to give a huge shout out to the town of Dubuque, Iowa and the fine folks at the Hotel Julien. I always say what makes a location is the people. You'll be hard pressed to find better people than we did in Iowa and especially in Dubuque. The crew and I really enjoyed our time there, and we thank all the folks who made us feel right at home.
So now we're down to our final three, as we leave Iowa and head to beautiful Bali for the exotic overnight dates. Things have changed considerably for Chris and the ladies, and things will continue to ratchet up from as we hit the home stretch in Chris's search to find the woman of his dreams. See you next week!
