There are "bless your heart" moments and then there's Megan. We left the friendly confines of the Bachelor Mansion in America and headed to New Mexico. One of the cool things we get to do on this show as producers is take some of these contestants to places they've only dreamed of going. Megan, for example, has never left the country. Now, I'll admit I didn't have the heart to break it to Megan that she still wasn't leaving the country — she had her sombrero and bikini and I didn't want to kill her joy.
Once we landed in Santa Fe, Carly was awarded the first date. This may have been one of the most awkward first dates in the history of awkward first dates. Chris and Carly started the date visiting with a love and intimacy mentor. I'm pretty sure that's what my business card says, too. As Chris and Carly said, the things she was having them do would've been more appropriate on date seven rather than date one. I talked to Chris after this date and he told me it was bizarre and that they were more than a little uncomfortable. Luckily, Chris was with a girl like Carly that was open and honest and could handle it. I thought it was impressive the way Carly opened up about herself and her prior relationships. She seems like a woman that really knows what she wants. I'm guessing a lot of women out there really understand where Carly is coming from and have had similar experiences. Carly easily won over Chris's heart and got the rose.
The next date was interesting on many levels, but to start I was just happy to get more Megan. I'm pretty sure the folks at the Rio Grande are thinking of hiring her as their new public relations manager. Megan's new slogan for the Rio Grande would be, "Sure, it's pretty — but watch out for the alligators and dead bodies."
Luckily the group avoided both of these things as they enjoyed an afternoon shooting the rapids down the beautiful Rio Grande. That is until Jade was ejected from her boat. Who knew Jade suffered from a special disorder where you get really cold when you fall into really cold water, but she does. She was fortunate Chris was there to rub her feet and make everything OK.
The big story on this date didn't happen on the river, it was waiting for them back at the hotel. While Chris was making his way to the party he ran into Jordan who he had let go back in Week 2. Jordan, who was really best known for enjoying a few too many cocktails, drove all the way to Santa Fe to give love a sober chance. Chris was moved by the gesture and decided to bring her into the party. I understand the move and agreed with it at the time, but it really didn't sit well with the other ladies. Chris was really stuck between a rock and a hard place. None of the girls were happy about it, but most expressed their emotions in a pretty mature way. That is, except for Ashley, who was so put off she was ready to rustle up a mob and run Jordan out of town. Ashley, who's extremely gifted in bringing drama to any situation, decided the best course of action was to be mean to Jordan and publicly shun her.
Chris was very aware of the growing tension and really had no choice but to send Jordan home. Before they called it a night, Chris gave the rose to Whitney who truly handled the night with class and dignity. This of course gave Ashley another chance to be dramatic and shed some tears.
The last date of the week was a one-on-one date and it went to Britt. Britt is definitely the first person in the shows history to burst into tears just by reading the date card. We also learned that Britt apparently doesn't shower, nor does she shave her legs very often. And she sleeps in full makeup. Some of you might think that Britt wore full makeup to bed on this night because she knew she would be awakened early for her date. This is not the case — Britt wore full makeup to bed every night.
Over the last few weeks Britt really seemed to have slipped a bit from the top spot. This was an important date for her. Well, if Britt slipped at all she quickly made that ground right back up. The two of them have amazing chemistry together. They can't keep their hands off each other. After the balloon ride the two of them ended up back in Chris's room for some lunch and a "nap." Britt may have taken two steps back lately, but after this date she just took 10 steps forward. I'm not sure why the women this season feel the need to share so much about their time with Chris, but they certainly do. The women were already questioning Britt's sincerity before she came in and shared the fact that she just spent a cozy afternoon with Chris in his bed.
It was this information that prompted Kelsey to sneak out to get some alone time with Chris. Earlier in the week we saw Kelsey finally open up about her past to some of the other girls. She calmly told them about how her husband tragically died. When Kelsey told Chris the same story, she became a lot more emotional and detailed about what happened. The whole thing was a bit awkward for Chris — but nothing could be more awkward than that kiss. If you look at Chris's body language he couldn't have been stiffer, and if he leaned back any further he would've fallen off the couch. Kelsey felt very good about herself going into the cocktail party. It's odd how even when she's talking about really emotional things, she comes off extremely confident and almost condescending to the other women. As you heard, many of the other women just don't believe Kelsey is for real. When Chris walked in and let it slip that Kelsey snuck over and saw him that day the situation only got worse.
The odd thing is after Chris sold Kelsey out and left the cocktail party something changed in her demeanor. Suddenly the arrogance gave way to insecurity. I talked to Chris outside and he had just had enough this week and was ready to make his decision. There was nothing that he could've heard that would've made a difference so he wanted to move straight to the rose ceremony. Kelsey and some of the other girls got up to go use the restroom, and at some point we heard from a producer that Kelsey had gotten emotional and was struggling to breathe. By the time we found her she was outside the bathroom on the floor. It appeared she was suffering from some sort of panic attack. Our medic was quickly on scene and started to attend to her... And that's where we left you this week.
Next Monday night we begin right back where we left off, on the floor outside the bathroom. You will see the rest of Kelsey's panic attack and you can decide if you think it was legit or all an act. The other ladies are starting to really question Kelsey, and this "incident" didn't help any. You will also see the rose ceremony that took place that night in Santa Fe. (The photo at the top of this blog was taken as Chris and I were getting ready for the rose ceremony.) Then we leave the country of New Mexico and head back to the United States where we visit the Wild West town of Deadwood, South Dakota. As you can see, tensions are high as more and more relationships are being built here. Next week everything boils over, and you will witness the wildest, most dramatic two-on-one date in the history of this show. In the meantime, I want to congratulate Megan for being named the new ambassador to the country of New Mexico. I trust she will serve our country well and I look forward to many years of good relations between our two nations.
See you next week as the drama continues!
The Bachelor airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
