You can't kill an Original — but you can write one off.
This week's episode of The CW's "The Originals" ended with Rebekah, played by Claire Holt, driving away from New Orleans after brother Klaus (Joseph Morgan) set her free.
Rebekah said goodbye to her loved ones — and it seems Holt herself is bidding farewell, too. The Wrap reports that the actress is leaving the series, though she may return occasionally in a recurring capacity. Yahoo TV reached out to Holt's representatives for comment, but did not receive a response.
The news came as a shock to fans, considering Holt was essentially the female lead of the show, and Rebekah was integral to storylines as one of the titular Original vampires.

The Wrap cites sources that say producers felt "the character was no longer needed in a series regular capacity." Buzzfeed, on the other hand, says that the decision was entirely Holt's and that she never intended to play Rebekah as long as she had. (Some fans are even speculating Holt left because she's pregnant.)
The actress first took on the role of Rebekah in 2011 in a three-episode arc on "The Vampire Diaries." Rebekah quickly became a favorite thanks to her snarky zingers.
In fond memory of Rebekah Mikaelson, here are some of her best lines:
- "Boxer briefs. Now that`s a change from the twenties."
- "Impressive. You're like Sherlock Holmes with brain damage."
- "So this is what you do the first time we're back together as a family? Vampire book club?"
- "Hey, just because you're carrying a baby doesn't mean you get to act like one."
- "How did I get elected Supernanny?"
"The Originals" airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on The CW.
