The first year of Showtime's 19th century monster mash-up, Penny Dreadful, was overflowing with vampires. Season 2, which launches on May 3, is all about the witches. A pair of new Penny Dreadful posters spotlight the villains, Evelyn Poole (Helen McCrory) and her daughter, Hecate (Sarah Greene), who will be casting a spell on viewers — not to mention the show's characters, including Reeve Carney's eternally youthful Dorian Gray, whose screaming visage adorns the third poster.

Eagle-eyed fans will no doubt recognize Evelyn as the spiritualist Madame Kali, who presided over a memorable séance in the second episode of Season 1. This year, she'll let her powers off their leash. "She becomes the antagonist for not only [Eva Green's] Vanessa but all the characters," executive producer John Logan explained at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. "She believes she is on the side of the angels, even though she's serving the devil." Hey, like the song says, you gotta serve, somebody.
Season 2 of Penny Dreadful premieres May 3 at 10 p.m. on Showtime.
