It's a good thing Anson Mount didn't shave or he might have been completely unrecognizable out of costume.
It's a long way — and almost 150 years — from the Calgary set where Mount tapes AMC's period drama "Hell on Wheels" to Los Angeles's Beverly Hilton Hotel. Trading his horse and pocket watch for a cell phone and aviator shades gave the actor a modern-day makeover as he promoted the show's third season to TV journalists at the Television Critics Association summer press tour.
The Western drama, featuring Mount's badass former confederate soldier turned transcontinental railroad engineer Cullen Bohannan, kicks off with a 2-hour premiere on August 10 at 9 PM. It's a new night and focus for the show, which is moving away from revenge as Cullen's main motivator. The series' new showrunner Joe Wirth explained, "We shifted gears ... shifting more into an area of redemption, or as we call it, 'reconstruction'. It's opened the show, and made the characters more embraceable."
Mount, who once played Britney Spears's boyfriend in "Crossroads," took us along for the ride on Friday as he commandeered Yahoo! TV's Instagram to share photos of himself and co-star Common as they geared up to face the press and even offered a backstage peek at his AMC network co-stars' "Breaking Bad" panel.
