Bruno Mars Speaks Out on His Mother’s Death

By Laura Ferreiro

Bruno Mars has broken his silence on his mother's recent death, taking to Twitter Thursday night to express his sorrow and gratitude to his fans.

The pop star wrote, "So thankful for all the love during the most difficult time in my life. Ill be back on my feet again soon. Thats what mom wants, she told me."

Mars' mother, Bernadette Hernandez, died suddenly on Saturday at the age of 55 of a brain aneurysm at a medical center in Honolulu. The Hawaii resident came to the United States from the Philippines and was a singer and a hula dancer. She encouraged her son's interest in music from a very young age.

Mars, whose real name is Peter Hernandez, showed his promise as a singer when he was just four years old and he wrote a ridiculously sweet song for his mother called "I Love You Mom."

Since then, the 27-year-old singer has gone on to sell millions of albums, win a Grammy Award and top the Billboard charts. He's set to kick off a world tour on June 22 with a sold-out show in Washington, D.C.
