In October, we learned that Canadian pop/punk princess Avril Lavigne was set to record her own rendition of Nickelback's smash hit "How You Remind Me," which was penned by none other than her fiancé and band frontman, Chad Kroeger.
Now the 28-year-old singer's cover of the 2001 track, which will appear in an upcoming anime movie, has been released online and you can listen to it below.
Lavigne's take on the traditional rock song is acoustic in nature with a gentle piano melody taking centre stage.
However, this stripped down version has some fans yawning. One viewer commented on the clip, "I think it's good she [made her] very own version of the song, but I still expected something different."
They continued, "There is no climax, the song stays the same all these minutes, and I think that's sad, because Avril has the vocal ability to make the climax of a song huge. I don't wanna say this way it sounds boring, but it's nothing too special..."
There has also been some positive feedback with fans praising Lavigne's approach to the song.
For example, one viewer seemed quite pleased, writing, "This song doesn't need a climax, even the original version doesn't really has a huge climax."
They also wrote, "Avril makes it her own and her voice is so magical in this song. It's not as high and pitchy as in Girlfriend and Smile, it's so great! Those vibrations in her voice in this song: just flawless. The 'I've been wrong, I've been down' is so great, and the way she says 'story'...damn, I'm all over in love again in her. Blew my mind!"
