Steven Tyler, Alice Cooper & Weird Al Ring in New Year with Maui Jam Session

Now here's an "American Idol" panel I could really get behind! Imagine how extremely awesome Wednesday and Thursday nights on Fox would be if the judges were Steven Tyler with Weird Al Yankovic and Alice Cooper, instead of with Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson. Well, that ain't gonna happen--at least not in Season 11, which starts January 18. But maybe a recent Hawaiian New Year's Eve jam session by the rock 'n' roll dream team of Steven/Alice/Al will give "Idol" producers some bright ideas for Season 12. Or at least make producers decide that THIS should be the big centerpiece musical number for the Season 11 finale:

Yes, Steven, Alice, and Al bizarrely came together to perform the Beatles' "Come Together" at the Mala Restaurant in Wailea, Maui this past New Year's Eve, with Alice and Al playing it surprisingly straight (no boa constrictor or guillotine for Alice; no altered jokey lyrics or accordion for Al, though of course Al did wear a Hawaiian shirt). Steven, who once belted out the song with Aerosmith in the 1978 Sgt. Pepper cult movie, naturally took centerstage here. And while I thought it was pretty rad when Aerosmith battled with Peter Frampton and the Bee Gees during that aforementioned movie performance, this was just as fun--and just as weird.
