In one of the least surprising but most deserved talent show victories in recent memory, 18-year-old wunderkind Ricky Ubeda won Season 11 of So You Think You Can Dance on Wednesday night. Well, maybe he was surprised, judging by his reaction: Upon learning hearing hostess Cat Deeley say his name, he fell to the floor (in the most graceful way possible, of course), sobbing, as confetti showered down on him and the audience whooped it up.
A SYTYCD fanboy since literally Season 1, Ricky had long dreamed of winning the show. And it was clear from his first audition this year that his dream was destined to come true. He might actually be the best champion the series has ever had.
If you missed SYTYCD this season... well, first of all, shame on you. You're why this great show, which brings the arts and cool songs by Disclosure, M83, and Birdy into America's homes every week, is at risk of cancelation. But I digress. If you did miss any episodes of Season 11, I present to you, without comment (because there's only so many times I can type "awesome" and "amazing" before it gets old/my hands start to cramp), all of Ricky's duo performances — many with runner-up Valerie Rockey — from his tremendous run.
