Wondering what's going on in the world of country music? Here's a roundup of happenings in case you missed any of the news in the past few days.
Leading this week: Keith Urban and his fellow American Idol judges returned from a two-month hiatus for the first round of Season 14 auditions. And one of their first stops was….Nashville. Makes plenty of sense, don’t ya think? Considering that it’s Keith’s adopted hometown, it comes as no surprise that he told People Country that he was a little partial to this round of hopefuls.
And one Music City musician in particular made Keith proud: USA Today reported that after an Idol producer visited Nashville’s famed Bongo Java coffeehouse, an employee working there convinced them to let him come out and audition. He made the cut and is headed to Hollywood!
Next up – it's lucky number seven for Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood! That’s the number of times that they’ll have hosted the CMA Awards, including their upcoming stint this November. The announcement was made this week on the ABC’S “CMA’s Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock” TV special. And in a press release, Brad cracked a joke that this year, they’ll have to pay union dues.”
And finally, remember that incident a few weeks ago when Tim McGraw swatted away the hand of an overeager fan at an Atlanta concert? The singer is finally speaking out about the incident. He told ET Canada that it was a purely instinctive reaction, adding: "You are in that position, you are out there, you are vulnerable, things happen and sometimes you react.”
His team added in a statement that, quote: the matter has been mutually resolved the old-fashioned way — with a simple conversatiion.
