Stars Celebrate Spirit Day

Being yourself can be tough, especially when you're young. Especially when you're different. Just ask any kid who's ever been bullied for being gay. On Thursday, October 20, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation will fight back on the second annual Spirit Day ... and there's no shortage of star power behind it. Celebs including Tori Spelling, Naya Rivera ("Glee"), Vinny Guadagnino ("Jersey Shore"), Mario Lopez, and many more filmed public service announcements for the event. They're all planning to wear purple that day, and they're asking all of us to do the same. You can even download a free resource kit.

The cool thing about Spirit Day is that it wasn't created by some big corporation. A teen named Brittany McMillian founded it last year to "show support for LGBT teens and remember those lives lost to suicide," according to GLAAD.

I'll be donning purple on Spirit Day. Will you?
