Russell Brand Opens Up About the End of His Marriage to Katy Perry: ‘I Still Love Her’

Don't look for Russell Brand to be one of those guys trash talking his ex ... at least not publicly! In an interview on Ellen that airs today, he has nothing but kind words about his soon-to-be ex-wife, Katy Perry.

"I still love her as a human being," Brand, 36, tells the talk show host on Thursday's show. "But, sometimes when you're in a relationship I suppose it doesn't work out, does it? But that doesn't mean I regret it or anything."

Brand says he was "very happy to be married" to the "California Gurls" singer, who he wed in October 2010 and then filed for divorce from in December 2011. He calls her "a beautiful human being" and noted: "I just have only love and positivity for her."

So what went wrong? Apparently they just weren't the right fit. "You can't absolutely make everything the way you want it to be in life," Brand says. "Sometimes things are just different and then you just move with that and try and remain in contact with what is beautiful about yourself and each other with any situation."

Both Brand and Perry seem to have moved on from their brief union, which was settled amicably earlier this year and will be finalized on July 14. (She asked the court to restore her maiden name: Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson.) While he has been linked to various models, most recently David Hasselhoff ex Anouska De Georgiou, she spent a loved up weekend with Florence + The Machine guitarist Robert Ackroyd at the Coachella Music Festival.

Perry will have her say about the end of their marriage in her upcoming movie Katy Perry: Part of Me 3D. The trailer for the documentary includes mention of the split. As a voiceover says, "We have some not-so-happy news: the divorce of Katy Perry. What happened there?" there is footage of the singer hunched over in her dressing room. The movie hits theaters on July 5.
