Highly Strung: Watch the Black Lips' Marionette-Filled 'Funny' Video

Clearly, puppets are the new rock. Following "American Idol" winner Lee DeWyze's adorably animated "Fight" video and this week's premiere of the trippy clip for Shy Kidx's remix of the "Muppets" theme, Southern scuzz-rockers the Black Lips have now unveiled their all-strings-attached video for "Funny," shot at Los Angeles's famous Bob Baker Marionette Theater.
The Bob Baker Marionette Theater, one of the oldest such venues in the U.S., was designated an official L.A. landmark in 2009. Its namesake puppeteer, a former animator and animation advisor for Walt Disney and other film studios, has entertained thousands of children there since 1961. But Bob likely never put on a show like the one by the Black Lips. This one's not for kids.
Directed by Dave Markey (Nirvana, Black Flag, Sonic Youth, Mudhoney, and of course, the Meat Puppets), "Funny" features some disturbing man-on-puppet action starring fearsome Lips frontman Cole Alexander. But, yes, it's pretty funny. Get highly strung and check it out.
