What could be a more satisfying experience than hearing some toothsome music from a hot up-and-coming musical artist? Well, it's hard to beat including another element of sensory input to that: How about adding some tasty cuisine from a cutting-edge chef to the mix?
When electronic artist Michael Angelakos, who records under the name Passion Pit, recently decided to cross paths with his friend Nick Anderer — the executive chef of NYC's Gramercy Park Hotel restaurant Maialino — the flavors definitely combined in a great way.
Here, Anderer reveals the rock-star aspects of the kitchen, explaining that a chef's "super fast-paced, super high-energy, super-chaotic" job isn't for everyone; while Angelakos details the time commitment required to record music: "I think I've been [in the studio] more than my house!"
However, the time and dedication has definitely paid off. Both professionals heartily appreciate each other's talents. Anderer notes that "listening to a great song — I crave it," while Angelakos says simply that "It makes me really happy whenever I have a great meal!"
Luckily, the two friends have the opportunity to step into each other's worlds. First, Angelakos takes Anderer into his studio, where he walks through the production of the single "Take A Walk." Then, it's Anderer's turn, inviting Angelakos into his restaurant Maialino to observe an intricate lesson on ravioli is made. When the meal is ready, the two sit down to eat; as well as contrast and compare how their respective art forms are similar...and different!
Of course, after having the pleasure of eating Anderer's delicious meal, Angelakos could not refuse sharing his own talent with his friend, peforming "Take A Walk" on acoustic guitar right there in the restaurant.
