It looks like Fox and Disney are just going to find a way to share their new favorite action figure — Quicksilver. And you'll just have to get used to seeing him (played by two different actors) over and over again.
A tremor shook the comic book world last week when Bryan Singer confirmed via Twitter that he cast Evan Peters (one of the best things about "American Horror Story") in the role of Quicksilver in "X-Men: Days of Future Past." It wasn't the casting choice that caused all sorts of murmurings but the fact that the appearance of the character in a Fox movie seemed to contradict Joss Whedon's plans to use that same character in the next "Avengers" outing, which is run by Marvel/Disney.
However, it looks like plans are going forward for Quicksilver to appear in both films. Joss confirmed that the high-speed character — and his sister, Scarlet Witch — are still a planned part of "The Avengers 2."
"There are new characters ... we're going to have a brother-sister team, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, who were great mainstays in 'The Avengers' when I was reading the comics," said Whedon on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon this week.
When Fallon asked if Whedon had cast the roles yet, he replied with "Not yet ... we're doing that now."
So that at least more or less confirms that Evan Peters won't be pulling double-duty for both Fox and Disney. But it looks like Quicksilver himself will be, which means we'll be seeing two different actors playing the same character a mere ten months apart from each other ("X-Men: Days of Future Past" opens in July 2014, followed by "The Avengers 2" in May 2015). Sheesh, who would've thought that Pietro Maximoff would be so popular with the moviemakers?
As far as who will play Quicksilver in "The Avengers 2," we can for now only speculate. Fallon himself half-jokingly suggested Channing Tatum, who will probably find his way into a Marvel movie sooner or later either way. It may come down to Scarlet Witch being cast first and then finding an actor who could pass for that actress' twin brother ... and that actress is currently rumored to be "Hanna" star Saoirse Ronan.
"I have heard about it and yes, I would," said Ronan in a recent interview with The Mary Sue when asked if she would be interested in taking on the role. "Yeah, of course I would. I love Joss and I love those films, and I love his handle on them and how he portrayed these kinds of superheroes. I think it’s very different from what anyone else has done. So yeah, I'd love to be in it."
Damn, Evan Peters could certainly pass for Saoirse Ronan's sibling. You sure you don't also want to play nice with the same actor too, fellas?
