Peter Dinklage, the character actor who has risen to stardom playing Tyrion Lannister on the hit HBO series “Game Of Thrones,” is seeing his profile on the big screen rising as well. It was announced Wednesday that Dinklage will be joining the cast of the next installment in the “X-Men” franchise.

Bryan Singer, who will be directing “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” posted on Twitter, “Officially like to welcome #PeterDinklage from #GameOfThrones to #XMEN #DaysofFuturePast Very very excited!"

Despite all those hashtags, Singer hasn’t yet revealed who Dinklage will be playing in the film. The Twitterverse, however, is speculating that he will play Puck, a seven-foot tall athlete and bullfighter who turned into a 3' 6" dwarf by a malicious spirit.

Dinklage will be working alongside an interesting combination of characters from the Marvel multi-verse. Most of the principle actors from the “X-Men” franchise have been confirmed for the project, including Patrick Stewart as Professor Xavier, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Anna Paquin as Rogue, Ellen Page as Kitty Pride, and Shawn Ashmore as Iceman. “Days of Future Past” will also include the actors from

“X-Men: First Class,” which examined the origins of the gifted superheroes; it’s expected the film’s narrative, drawn from a 1981 story in “Uncanny X-Men,” will move back and forth between a blighted future and the team’s formative days. Slated to re-appear from “First Class” are James McAvoy (Professor Xavier), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), and Nicholas Hoult (Beast).

Born in 1969, Dinklage first made a name for himself as a gifted stage actor before making his film debut in the 1995 comedy “Living In Oblivion,” in which he played a sharp-tongued dwarf actor who makes no secret of how he feels about the roles he’s offered. Dinklage’s breakthrough came in 2003 with a starring role in the indie success “The Station Agent,” which earned him Screen Actors Guild and Independent Sprit Award nominations. Since then, Dinklage has played showy roles in “Elf,” “Death At A Funeral,” and “The Chronicles of

Narnia: Prince Caspian.” He’s also played a recurring character on “Entourage” and even romanced Liz Lemon on a memorable episode of “30 Rock” before landing the role on “Game Of Thrones.”

“X-Men: Days Of Future Past,” is currently scheduled to go before the cameras in April, with an anticipated release date of July 18, 2014.
