Lots of young girls pretend to be Cinderella, but Anna Kendrick gets to play Cinderella and get paid for it.
Photos taken on the England set of Disney's "Into the Woods" show Kendrick, perhaps best known as Jessica in the "Twilight" series, dressed to the nines as the famous fairytale figure. Kendrick is seen in a flowing white gown with a silk bodice and plenty of lace. The 28-year-old actress is also wearing a pair of white boots with high heels — a decidedly different look than another live action Cinderella we spotted in recent days.
While the dress is adorned with gorgeous detail, judging from Kendrick's facial expression, it may not be the most comfortable fit. She looks a tad annoyed — rather than regal — as she walks on the UK filming location.
"Into the Woods" is Disney's screen adaptation of the long-running stage musical by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine. And it stars a laundry list actors, including A-list talent Johnny Depp (as the Wolf) and Meryl Streep (the Witch). The story incorporates elements from a handful of well-known fairy tales, as characters from "Cinderella," "Jack and the Beanstalk," "Little Red Riding Hood," and "Rapunzel" interact alongside a new story about a baker and his wife who wants to have children.
Kendrick is also offering her own images from the shoot. So far, the "Pitch Perfect" actress has tweeted two pictures from the "Into the Woods" locations. One is a black and white shot of a director's chair sitting in a field, with the name "Cinderella" stenciled on the backrest and Kendrick's self-effacing caption: "Weird."
Another snapshot posted by Kendrick shows a clearing in the woods with sun shining through the mist. Kendrick's comment on the photo reads, "The way is clear, the light is good …" The line is a lyric from one of the songs from "Into the Woods."
Emily Blunt and Chris Pine were also spotted on the set of "Into the Woods." Blunt plays the Baker's Wife, and wears a simple but flattering peasant dress that shows off her new and growing baby bump. (Blunt and her husband John Krasinski, of "The Office," announced in mid-September that they are expecting their first child.)
Chris Pine ("Star Trek") plays the Prince beguiled by Cinderella, and he looks regal in velvet trousers, a period-appropriate white shirt, and tall boots.
"Into the Woods," also starring Christine Baranski and Tracey Ullman, is set to open in theaters on Christmas Day, 2014.
