Spoiler alert! Shailene Woodley's tattoos for "Divergent" aren't real.

The 21-year-old actress is so into all things natural that she makes her own toothpaste, so seeing her all tatted up for her movie can be a bit jarring. Still, the unusual flock of birds flying across her neckline that we can see in full for the first time in these exclusive posters suits her unique character.

And they offer insight into just who Tris Prior is.

Woodley takes on the heroine role of the futuristic action film, which arrives in theaters on March 20. In this universe, teens are forced to choose one of five "factions" that divide the society based on a virtue of humanity: Abnegation (selflessness), Amity (peace), Candor (honesty), Dauntless (bravery) and Erudite (intelligence). Tris, who was born into Abnegation, shows an aptitude for three, thus making her unique, "Divergent," and in grave danger.

Tris ultimately chooses leave her family behind to join the Dauntless, where members are trained to serve as a sort of military for the five factions. Tattoos and piercings are a common part of such a risk-taking society, and she knows she'll have to partake in order to fit in and prove she's really shed her grey, Abnegation persona. Still, it's her family that inspires her ink: three black ravens.

"I touch my collarbone, marking the path of their flight, toward my heart," she says in the bestselling novel by Veronica Roth. "One for each member of the family I left behind."

Such a choice shows that Tris is clearly a special blend of selflessness and bravery.

Woodley isn't planning on trying to match her alter ego anytime soon.

"I do not have any tattoos. I don't think that would happen, but I do love them," she told Yahoo Movies, pointing to the trio of birds. "They're great for now."

Learn more about the different factions in 'Divergent':

Our other exclusive poster features Tris's love interest, Four, played by Theo James. Since he's been Dauntless for several years longer than his counterpart, he's had a bit longer to develop his tats. The five images down his back are the symbols of all five factions – a bold choice for a man serving as a leader in a competitive society.

Of course, fans of the books like to show how they are "divergent," too. Devotees from all over the world submitted their photos and videos showing off how they take risks and stand apart, and the best submissions were included in these new "animated mosaics."
