This is certainly not the Abraham Lincoln from the history books.

Then again, the title for the new movie "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" makes it clear this will not be just a documentary on the 16th president of the United States.

The recently released trailer for the 3D horror-action film confirms it, with the preview offering a collage of the familiar and the far out. Lincoln is shown in his trademark top hat and beard, but he also wields an axe he's not afraid to use. Watch the trailer below:

Since the trailer was released Monday afternoon, the term "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" has been trending in search and social media as people vie to get the first look at the much-anticipated film. "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" already has more than 7,500 Twitter followers, and 230 Facebook "likes" and almost 150 "shares" for the trailer. The feedback on Facebook was almost unanimously positive, with many commenters saying they "can't wait for the movie."

Seth Grahame-Smith, who wrote the screenplay based on his book of the same name, chronicles Lincoln's humble upbringing through his rise to the presidency, the Civil War, and the emancipation of slaves. All this is set against the backdrop of Honest Abe slaying evil spirits and seeking revenge upon the vampires who killed his mother when he was a young child.

The 20th Century Fox film, produced by Tim Burton, stars Benjamin Walker as Lincoln, Rufus Sewell, Anthony Mackie and Dominic Cooper. Directed by "Wanted" filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov, "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" will open on June 22.
