Meghan Trainor's 'Husband': Worst Song of 2015?

·Writer, Yahoo Entertainment

Meghan Trainor was unquestionably one of the biggest breakout stars of 2014 with her smash hit “All About That Bass." And while that song may have been a step forward for body image standards, some critics are calling her latest a big step back for women.

It’s called “Dear Future Husband” and like many, many other pop songs, it deals with finding the perfect man. This time though, sites like Mic are calling it sexist because, quote “Trainor bases her self-worth on male acceptance.” Check out the video:

It should be obvious that the song and music video aren’t meant to be taken seriously, but Salon went so far as to name “Dear Future Husband” the worst song of 2015, calling it “a literal garbage pile of horrible retrograde gender stereotypes."

Two things to take into account: first, how can a song be a literal garbage pile...and second, it’s only March! Nobody can pick out the worst song of 2015 yet. There will be so many more!

Despite the controversy – and maybe because of it – “Dear Future Husband” currently has over 1.8 million views on YouTube, and that’s only after two days.
