Iggy Azalea Cancels Pittsburgh Pride Appearance in Wake of Homophobic Allegations

Australian rapper Iggy Azalea will no longer be performing at Pittsburgh’s Pride event, scheduled for this weekend (June 13). The cancellation is a result of criticism from the local LGBT community over some of her past, deleted -- but archived -- tweets, which they characterize as homophobic.

Azalea announced the news via a statement on Twitter, writing in part: “Unfortunately in the past as a young person, I used words I should not have…I meant no harm and deeply regret ever uttering those words.”

In one of the tamer tweets, which she wrote in 2010, Azalea said: "When guys whisper in each other's ears I always think it's kind of homo."

Considering the controversy, Azalea said that her appearance would only be a distraction from the event’s true purpose.

Pittsburgh’s Delta Foundation orchestrated the booking and noted on their Facebook page that they’re searching for a replacement.

However, some Pittsburgh residents aren’t pleased with the outcome. Several asked for a refund via Facebook, complaining that they paid to see Azalea, not a back-up.

The rapper backing out of the gig comes on the heels of an even bigger unbooking – Azalea recently canceled her 2015 Great Escape Tour, due to a “different creative change of heart."
