Heavy 'Nedal': 'The Simpsons' Character Inspires Arizona Band Okilly Dokilly

The Simpsons character Ned Flanders has inspired one Arizona band to create a whole new genre of music: “Nedal." Okilly Dokilly, named after the character’s signature catchphrase, is a tribute to Ned in every way, from their spot-on outfits, to the simplicity of their lyrics – their Facebook page says “most of our songs are direct Ned quotes - and even to their names, which are various versions of Ned.

The lead singer, who calls himself Head Ned, explained the origins of Okilly Dokilly to Australian site “Rip It Up”, saying: “Myself and our drummer were in line at a grocery store, entertaining ourselves by coming up with really cutesy names for really hardcore, brutal bands.”

In fact, the only thing the animated, church-going Ned Flanders might not approve of is their sound, which is loud, chaotic, and definitely focuses on the “kill” part of Okilly Dokilly.

Currently, the five-piece band only has four demos posted online but they’ll be making their live debut September 5 in Phoenix.

And despite being only a week old, Okilly Dokilly has already been liked nearly 20,000 times on Facebook. They recently posted a very Ned Flanders-inspired thank you, writing, “you are all the greatest neighborinos anyone could ask for.”
