Who Will Dig It?

Fans of Robert Downey, Jr., clever repartee, or lush period costumes... and those who feel that Arthur Conan Doyle's stories could have used more fight scenes and explosions.

Three Good Reasons

  • 1

The movie is meant to stand on its own, so even if you didn't see its predecessor, you should have no trouble keeping up.

  • 2

Optimism about the film is such that both Downey and director Guy Ritchie dropped out of other high-profile projects to take on this sequel.

  • 3

Jared Harris (TV's "Mad Men") comes on board as the legendary Professor Moriarty, having already played real-life icons John Lennon, Andy Warhol, and Henry VIII.

Bet You Didn't Know

The movie was partly inspired by Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Final Problem." The author himself rated this 1893 tale fourth in his list of personal favorites. The intent of the story was to kill off Sherlock Holmes so that Doyle could do some "serious" writing, but don't worry, this isn't a spoiler. Even Doyle couldn't resist the pressure to resurrect the great detective for further adventures.
