The title of J. Cole’s sophomore CD may be “Born Sinner,” but the North Carolina rapper received an outpouring of blessings early Thursday morning.
The Rocnation artist was the recipient of a generous gift from friend and fellow hip hop star Drake. After Drake joined Cole on stage for the “Power Trip” rapper’s “Dollar & A Dream” tour stop in New York, he took him on a 1:30 a.m. shopping spree at Best Buy in Union Square.
Drake bought all of the “Born Sinner” copies on the retailer’s shelves, while also tossing in the mix CDs from Sade, Kendrick Lamar, French Montana and The Weekend.
J. Cole was giddy, seemingly in disbelief as fans witnessed the support from one of pop music’s biggest names.
The best moment occurred during check out. The cashier gave Cole a major ego boost, saying, “More people bought your album than Kanye.”
Cole’s “Born Sinner” and Kanye’s “Yeezus” are among this week’s new releases.
Seeing a couple of light skinned thugs in harmony is a beautiful thing for hip hop.
