Holmes: Suri ‘Has a Great Eye’ for Fashion

Katie Holmes turned 32 in December, and as well as a birthday trip to NYC with her husband Tom Cruise and daughter Suri, it seems the new year has the former "Dawson's Creek" ingenue branching out in all areas. In her interview with Elle magazine, Katie Holmes opens up about preparing for her role in the History Channel's upcoming miniseries "The Kennedys," her love of Jackie O, and her daughter Suri's keen eye for design.

One fashion icon Holmes has a serious admiration for is Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis, whom she plays in "The Kennedys." "I worked as hard as I could, because I loved her," says the actress, adding, "On set there was this feeling that we had to create something very special, because these people were very special."

As well as Jackie's trendsetting fashion sense, Katie also confesses that she admires the former first lady's strength of character. "I didn't realize that she had lost a child in August and then [Jack] was assassinated in November. I couldn't believe it. She had so much strength... I loved her love of family, how important it was for her to be a good mother."

Fashion Spotlight: Holmes & Yang

Holmes' passion for design led her to launch the fashion brand Holmes & Yang in the fall of 2009, yet it seems that little Miss Suri is now taking over the reigns from her mama when it comes to style! "She'll really tell me [what she thinks]," laughs Katie. "Like today I'm wearing brown suede pants, and she said, 'I don't like your pants.' But then she'll say, 'You've got to wear these shoes.' Or 'That's so pretty, Mom. Wear that.'" Though I would probably take any fashion advice from a precocious pre-schooler with a grain of salt, it seems Holmes takes her daughter's advice to heart. "She's got a great eye."

Shop It Out: Katie Holmes

The proud mother also reveals that her 4-year-old -- who seems to love dresses and loathe any kind of warm clothing -- has very strong ideas about her own wardrobe as well as her mom's. "The other day we came out of a store, and she said, 'I want to go there,' pointing at another store quite a distance away. In that store was the dress that she wanted. I said, 'Wow, Suri. You're something. You picked that out from a football field away.'"

Is it just me, or do you foresee a Katie & Suri children's line launching in the near future?
