Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato Team Up

Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato are BFFs, that's why they were so excited when they found out they'd be starring together in "Princess Protection Program," a new movie that premieres this Friday, June 26 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on the Disney Channel. In the TV flick, Selena portrays Carter Mason, a no-nonsense country girl, while Demi plays Rosalinda Marie Montoya Fiore, the teen princess of a fictitious country that has been taken over by a dictator. The two girls find themselves thrown together when Carter's dad, an agent in the Princess Protection Program -- a secret organization that rescues princesses -- brings Rosalinda (aka Rosie) home to live with them in Louisiana. I got to chat with Selena about the movie, her real-life best friend, and boys! Check out the teen queen's Q&A below:

How would you describe your character in "Princess Protection Program"?
"My character is very uncomfortable in her skin, she's still growing, has baggy clothes, and her father is her best friend, so she's kind of a tomboy. Towards the end of the movie you get to see Demi's character break out the more girly, lighter side to her."

Are you anything like Carter?
"No, not too much. When I was younger I used to be more of a tomboy, and I definitely think I was a little uncomfortable in my skin, but everyone goes through an awkward stage, so I think she's very relatable."

You star with your BFF Demi Lovato in the movie. How long have you girls been friends?
"For 10 years now. We met back home in Texas. We met in line auditioning for 'Barney & Friends' and we have been best friends ever since."

So what was it like for you to get to work together?
"We had been begging Disney for like two years straight to put us in a project together, so when they came to us with a script we didn't believe it at first, but we were very honored, and we were freaking out, and we are so excited for everyone to see it!"

Did you have a say at all in which role each of you would play?
"We did. Disney, of course, had a vision, and they definitely had a specific role they wanted us to play, but we auditioned for both of them to see what felt right and instantly Demi knew she was going to play Rosie and I knew I was going to play Carter."

I understand you got to travel to Puerto Rico to film the movie?
"Yes! Beautiful, beautiful place ... great food, wonderful beaches, and it was like a mini vacation. It was great. It's hard to believe I can say I've lived in Puerto Rico for four months of my life."

So when you're not working, how do you and Demi like to spend your free time?
"I think we are surrounded by adults all the time, so it's nice to be normal 16-year-olds when we're together. We like to listen to music, talk about boys, gossip."

Do you ever double date?
"No, that is one thing we have never done together! That bums me out a little bit. One day ... it'll happen one day."

Speaking of boyfriends, rumor has it that you were dating "Twilight" heartthrob, Taylor Lautner.
"No! I never have. Taylor has become one of my best friends, but I absolutely never have dated him. I got hurt very terribly awhile back and I think I should be single for awhile!

Your 17th birthday is coming up on July 22. How do you plan on celebrating?
"I'm going to fly out my family from Texas and we're just going to have a barbeque at our new house in California. I can't go home [to Texas] because I'll be working, but I will get to have my family fly out which is very important to me. It's going to be a very laid-back 17th birthday."

Although you reside in California, you still consider Texas to be home?
"Texas is my home, forever and always. I will move back their eventually. I love that place too much to be away from it for too long."

You've got so much going on with your TV show, your music, and your movies! Do you ever feel like your missing out on normal teen life?
"No, I love what I do so much. If you ever don't like it and you ever think that it's not fun then you shouldn't be doing it. Of course, there are moments when it gets really stressful, but I constantly remind myself of how lucky I am. I get to make kids laugh for a living. Having a live audience is my favorite thing in the whole world!"

So, ultimately, what do you want to be when you grow up? Where does your passion lie?
Acting. My dream is to win an Oscar by the time I'm 35. I hope that's where I will continue to be and I just hope I'm happy and being able to do the one thing I love and that's acting."
