The Hollywood Reporter about his addiction to drugs and alcohol.Even though Zac Efron's life seems pretty glamorous, it hasn't been entirely easy. Behind that pretty smile, the actor has had a stint in rehab, his jaw wired shut from a fall in his home, and most recently in March, a fight with a homeless man in Los Angeles. He has grown up in the spotlight starring in Disney's "High School Musical" movie series, and now the 26-year-old is opening up to
"I was drinking a lot, way too much. It's never one specific thing. I mean, you're in your 20s, single, going through life in Hollywood, you know? Everything is thrown at you. I wouldn't take anything back; I needed to learn everything I did. But it was an interesting journey, to say the least."
And his journey isn't quite over yet. The actor recently joined Alcoholics Anonymous and has been seeing a therapist. He opened up about the experience and mentioned that he still battles with addiction, saying, "It's a never-ending struggle."
"I just started going ," he says. "And I think it's changed my life. I'm much more comfortable in my own skin. Things are so much easier now."
But throughout his personal struggles, Zac has had to simultaneously face everything while also being in the spotlight.
"You go with your things, you learn, you have to. It's impossible to lead an honest and fulfilling life as a man and not make mistakes and 'fess up to them when you need to. But it's especially humiliating when they happen to be so public and so scrutinized."
While Zac is still working through his personal life, his career seems to be doing better than ever with his upcoming flick "Neighbors," which also stars Seth Rogen and opens on May 9.
