Plenty of devoted fans of young pop stars — One Direction fans, Katy Perry fans, and Selena Gomez fans — comment obsessively all day long on Instagram, longing for the fateful day when their beloved celebrities will return their comments. One of Selena Gomez's followers got her (probable) wish! Only, Gomez was firing back at her for dissing her curvy body.
And this mean-spirited body shamer didn't get off the hook, either, because the Selenians will always find you. One of Gomez's adoring followers (and who, for what's worth, possesses the Twitter handle "@BeMyWifeSelena") caught wind of the shaming and posted the evidence to Twitter. Dissenting Instagrammer @laurenlv94 was not in favor of Selena's curves, and according to the screenshot, the Instagrammer — we'll assume her name is Lauren — told Selena to "work out!" and to "Please stop eating junk food!" Other Selena zelaots (namely one fan with the fitting handle @huggingselena_) came to Gomez's defense, but that didn't stop Lauren from going off on Selena for how she needed to "tone her body" because it's "the business."
And while most comments often are shouted out into the ether, these comments were not. Gomez was responded in two posts:
"You're disgusting. I'M IN the business and I could care less about what 'they' or you say I should look like. I don't need to do anything other than love myself, take care of my work, fans, family and friends."
"And I do work out. It's not your place to tell anyone what they should or should not do."
And then Gomez proceded to ask to block Lauren.
The perpretator may have deleted her account, too, as the Instagram account "laurenlv94" is now private and operated by someone else, as her bio reads: "Due to this b***h that was body shaming Selena I took this user so NOONE[sic] can take this user and do more damage. I love Selena so much. I AM NOT LAUREN."
(Don't mess with Selena fans.)
Gomez is slowly but surely becoming a prominent voice in the anti-body shaming community. The naturally curvy (and healthy!) star has proudly responded to fat-shamers by rocking bikinis with confidence. "#theresmoretolove," she wrote on Instagram earlier this month.
By embracing what she's got and dissing the naysayers, she's sending a positive message to fans about self-worth, confidence, while also somewhat giving a lesson about responding to bullying.
So props to Gomez for slamming the hater. And to the body shamer, let it be known: if you shame hard enough, you will get a response from Selena... to the point that you get blocked.
