While Richard Gere always looks dapper on the red carpet or in the movies, this time around he's fooling New Yorkers into thinking he is homeless! The actor has been transformed for his latest role in the film "Time Out of Mind," which he is also producing. Richard plays a man who becomes homeless and tries to reconnect with his estranged daughter, who is played by Jena Malone.
The flick has been shooting on the streets of Manhattan. Richard was spotted eating a meal over a trash bin and drinking from a brown paper bag, and no one even noticed the actor wandering around Grand Central Station during rush hour. The cameras have been positioned far away enough that people didn't notice him being filmed.
According to the New York Post, the 64-year-old was so convincing that when a woman offered him an "I Love NY" plastic bag with food, he didn't break out of character; he took it, smiled, and thanked her.
The actor, who is reportedly worth $100 million, even managed to deceive a savvy New York newspaper salesman, Mizan Rahman, who told the New York Post, "I saw him. He looked like a natural homeless guy… . He didn't seem like he was acting. He was an excellent homeless man. He was putting his hand in the trash. He looked like a real homeless guy finding something."
Richard's co-star in the upcoming movie, Kyra Sedgwick, plays a fellow homeless person and has also been transformed. The actress looks almost unrecognizable in her latest role. She was sitting on a bench near the East River with a shopping cart full of the character's belongings.
Well we think that this film looks very promising, and we're not sure if we would have recognized the actors in character. Check out this video to see the actors' transformations, and tune in to "The Insider With Yahoo" for the latest in entertainment news.
