Rumors about Richie Sambora parting ways with Bon Jovi began swirling after he left the band on their current "Because We Can" tour earlier this year. Now, the rocker is revealing the truth behind his departure.
"30 years on the road, man — I just needed to be," the 54-year-old tells "omg! Insider." "You miss so much. I mean, it's 24/7. You don't get to go home. I just needed a break."
A single dad to daughter Ava (her mom is his ex-wife Heather Locklear), who recently celebrated her sweet 16, Sambora says he made his decision with the teen in mind.
"I really wanted to spend time with my daughter," he says. "Because now she's driving. She's 16 and now she's mobile. She doesn't need dad so much anymore."
Back in April, the band posted a message on its website stating, "Due to personal issues, Richie Sambora will not be performing on this upcoming leg. All shows will go on as scheduled." Though some reports in August said that he had quit the group for good, Richie makes it clear it's not a breakup — just a break. So "Keep the Faith," Bon Jovi fans!
