Take a Peek Inside Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi’s Ranch

Dancing and Portia de Rossi are not the only loves of Ellen DeGeneres.

The talk show host also has an affinity for home decorating, as de Rossi learned early in their relationship.

"I got a very thorough education in mid-20th-century French furniture within the first weeks of our dating," the 40-year-old de Rossi jokes in the May issue of Elle Decor.

She and the 55-year-old DeGeneres, who have been married for four years, show off one of DeGeneres's decorating projects in the magazine, and offer a look inside their ranch in Hidden Valley, located north of Los Angeles. The sprawling property, which features eight cabins, is one of many that DeGeneres has given a makeover.

"I can only change the furniture so much, and I get bored," shares DeGeneres, who designed the retreat with Jay Holman and Cliff Fong. "Then I need a new structure to work on."

When the two purchased the multistructure ranch in 2009, de Rossi says she expected it to keep DeGeneres busy for a while.

"I thought it might take Ellen five years to finish the project," the "Arrested Development" actress says. "And she did it in one. It was shocking!"

Take a tour of the couple's ranch:

Whereas DeGeneres is addicted to redecorating residences, de Rossi's all about horses. De Rossi has two at the ranch: Maeby, named after her "Arrested Development" daughter, and Mcy, pronounced "Macy." The horses reside in one of two barns on the property.

The actresses spent their first anniversary in what they call "the romantic barn," which, among other things, features an American workbench, a Belgian bust, French stools, a Persian antique rug, and original redwood walls. Romantic, right?

What's known as Cabin 6 features a modern, yet cozy kitchen with an Italian industrial light fixture, an antique bluestone table, and leather chairs by the fireplace.

Yet another fireplace warms up the main cabin, known as Cabin 8, and sits alongside countless books, a 1962 Fabricius & Kastholm chair, and a Brenda Antin sofa covered in Belgian linen.
