North West and Blue Ivy's $4K Crib – What Makes It So Special?
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West appeared in the April issue of Vogue, causing a whirlwind of backlash from the public and the media alike. But one thing that we can't stop talking about is the pricey crib in the background of a leaked photo from the spread. In the pic, Kanye is holding an iPad and Kim is taking a selfie with North in her nursery.
"The Insider With Yahoo" confirmed that little North rests her head in a $3,950 Nursery Works Vetro Crib. While that surely seems like a lot of money, it comes with some interesting characteristics. It is the first 100 percent recyclable, nontoxic acrylic baby bed, and it is even handmade.
Daniel Fong, the man behind the design of the luxurious crib, explained his ideas behind the unique construction.
"I like the modern and futuristic look of clear acrylic because it can offer a minimalistic design that focuses all of the attention on the baby, while simultaneously creating a 'wow' sensation," he said.
While Kimye certainly love to have a "wow" sensation, the couple may have actually copied the crib for another famous tiny tot. Beyoncé and Jay Z purchased the same crib for Blue Ivy back in November 2011.
The superstar stopped by Maison 24 in New York City and bought it on a whim. "The Insider With Yahoo" spoke to AJ Lang, who works at the store and assisted the singer.
"The crib was in the window and she must have driven by. ... They stopped by and came in and bought the crib along with a bunch of other stuff. A lot of the stuff [was] from our Alexandra von Fürstenberg line, and everything was blue, so we all assumed she was having a boy, but we know now that it was because her name is Blue."
Lang added that he didn't expect such a famous shopper to stop by the store unannounced and to spend so much time there. "We were all pretty speechless. We obviously got our stuff together and sold her a lot of stuff." She was in the store for close to two hours, he said. "She looked great, very laid back. It was super, super casual, and it was a relaxed experience. She wasn't dressed to the nines. She was just out with her family shopping."
Blue Ivy and North West aren't the only tots to sleep in luxury. Nursery Works also told us that Robert Downey Jr. purchased the same crib for his son.
