Who is the man behind the winning Oscar envelope?

·Rachel Hoffman

The Oscar statue is certainly the most recognizable symbol of the Academy Awards, but the gold envelope that contains the winners’ names is arguably just as iconic.

So, who is the man behind the winning envelope’s look? Well, his name is Marc Friedland, and he’s an invitation designer who creates stationery arts for dozens of Hollywood’s biggest stars, including Oprah Winfrey, Jennifer Aniston and Tom Hanks.

And while Friedland may work for some of the best actors in the biz, it’s safe to say that his biggest client is The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Not only does he make the envelopes for the Oscars, he also creates the elegant stationery for the Governors Awards, the Nominees Luncheon, the Scientific and Technical Awards and the Foreign Language Film Nominees Reception. And Marc's invitations aren't just for the stars. You can even bring the Oscars into your home with his online collection!
