Somebody's back on the block and ready to rock!
As Justin Timberlake readies his return to “Saturday Night Live” this weekend, pulling double duty as both host and musical guest for the third time, we have an exciting and exclusive tidbit on what you can expect from the multi-talented star. Hint: does anyone out there love mothers?
With this appearance as host, the 32-year-old joins “The Five-Timers Club” of folks who have hosted the sketch comedy show five times or more (J.T. also performed once as part of *NSYNC). He’s already won four Emmys for his appearances on the show … twice for musical performances and twice for acting.
Timberlake’s two most recent “SNL” Emmys came for both hosting and writing the opening monologue for his 2011 appearance. Of course, his most famous Emmy from the show was his first in 2007, which came for his 2006 collaboration with Andy Samberg and The Lonely Island comedy troupe for their Digital Short, “D--k in a Box.”
Samberg and J.T. reprised their ‘90s R&B balladeer characters when the "Suit & Tie" guy hosted in 2009 with “Motherlover” (he won another Emmy for hosting that episode). And the boys were back when he hosted in 2011 with “3-Way (The Golden Rule),” which featured Lady Gaga (both as the episode’s musical guest, and the object of Timberlake and Samberg's affection).
So, while anything can change up until the last minute with “Saturday Night Live,” omg! has learned that Samberg’s and Timberlake's characters will be back yet again this weekend! Furthermore, there will be a cameo from at least one of the “Motherlover” characters not seen since 2009: Patricia Clarkson (we’re guessing this means Susan Sarandon will most likely be back as well, although this isn't confirmed).
This morning, NBC released the very funny promos of JT featured alongside cast member Kenan Thompson. In one of them, the singer freaks out that he forgot his “Suit & Tie” at home, and runs off set to get it. In another, they joke that, in addition to hosting and singing this week, Justin will also be running camera, sound, and makeup.
Last night, Timberlake posted yet another awesome black and white Instagram photo of himself – this time, holding one of his cue cards from taping the promos.
Of course, following his stint in Studio 8H, Timberlake won’t be leaving 30 Rockefeller Plaza right away — he'll be appearing on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” every night next week, starting on Monday, March 11.
It'll be interesting to watch and see whether or not Fallon and Timberlake reprise their popular "Barry Gibb Talk Show" sketch, as it will be the first time Timberlake has hosted the show since the character he plays, Barry's brother Robin Gibb, passed away in May 2012.
Timberlake is promoting the release of his upcoming third solo album, “The 20/20 Experience,” due out March 19.
