Julianne Hough Apologizes for Blackface Costume

As a professional dancer, Julianne Hough is no stranger to elaborate costumes, but her Halloween getup — which she wore Friday night to the Casamigos Tequila Halloween Party in Beverly Hills — was a cringeworthy move.
As part of a group costume, the 25-year-old dressed up as Crazy Eyes from the Netflix hit dramedy "Orange Is the New Black," donning full blackface with her prison-gear ensemble, complete with jumpsuit, badge, and her hair in Crazy Eyes's signature knots.

It appears that one of her pals went as "OITNB's" central character Piper (Taylor Schilling), but that look would have also been a good fit for the starlet. Or how about blonde troublemaker Tricia (Madeline Brewer)? We don't see that character represented in her bevy of pals.
Nonetheless, if Hough was set on going as Crazy Eyes, we're convinced she could have gotten the point across sans face paint.
Actress Martha Plimpton, who thought the decision was in bad taste, weighed in on Twitter:
Welp, this was fun! Anywhozzles, no blackface for white peoples, k? YAY! Great. Have a great weekend everybody!

Today, Hough took to Twitter to apologize for the move, writing, "I am a huge fan of the show Orange is the New black, actress Uzo Aduba, and the character she has created. It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize."
