Jaden Smith Goes to Prom and It's Predictably Unusual

Jaden Smith might often defy conventions and speak mockable nonsense philosophy (however, R.I.P. to his blissfully cryptic Twitter and Facebook accounts), but this past weekend, he lived it up like a normal, relatively conventional teenager. He went to prom! The operative word, of course, is "normal." Being that this is Jaden Smith we are talking about, he nixed the traditional tux and opted to wear a white Batman suit instead for his date with Mecca Kalani, who goes by "Crystal Mec."

But are you really surprised? This just is how Jaden — who cares not for fashion norms — does prom. (The superhero getup is apparently also one of his favorites. The 16-year-old son of Will and Jada donned the Batman costume for Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's wedding last May, as well as to Comic-Con in 2014.)

But despite his, um, unique sense of style, Jaden posed for some seemingly traditional pre-prom photos, like this one posted by Martin star Tisha Campbell-Martin. (We're not quite sure why the actress was there taking pictures, but she did refer to the two as "neice and nephew.")

Cute, right? But you've seen the photo — you know what's underneath that jacket. The opposite of traditional.

Like a bride who chooses to wear black at her wedding while walking down the aisle to Blink-182, Jaden does not do proms like you and I ever did (unless you, too, wore a white Batman suit to prom).

Take time to notice that flowing cape.

While the Instagram photos (above) and the Twitter pics lack the pseudo-poetry of a classic Jaden tweet, they still do not disappoint. Because Jaden Smith may no longer have a Twitter account, but he still is Jaden Smith.

But for all of your eyebrow raising, he sure as hell looks like had fun. And isn't that what prom is all about?
