For Gwyneth Paltrow, there's a sunny side to Martha Stewart throwing shade at her. Earlier this fall, Martha was more than a bit dismissive of the Oscar winner's attempts to become a lifestyle entrepreneur, but instead of getting mad, the Goop founder got even.

"She just needs to be quiet — she's a movie star," Stewart told Porter magazine. "If she were confident in her acting, she wouldn't be trying to be Martha Stewart."

Addressing Martha's comments at Fortune's Most Powerful Women Summit Tuesday night, however, Gwyneth didn't miss a beat.

"No one has ever said anything bad about me before, so I'm shocked and devastated. I'll try to recover," she joked before adding, "If I'm really honest, I'm so psyched that she sees us as competition. I really am."

Perhaps Martha's comments came as even more of a (pleasant) surprise due to the fact that Gwyneth hadn't initially started her site with the intention of turning it into a real business. "When I started it, it really was just for myself and my friends. I didn't foresee the community I was creating," she explained. "I sometimes look back and say, 'What the heck, what was I doing?'"

She may not have had a clear business plan in mind at the time, but the times obviously are changing. Just this week, Goop snapped up a new CEO named Lisa Gersh… who just so happens to be the former president and CEO of Martha Stewart Living.

"She's the perfect person to build on the momentum we have already created at Goop, and to diversify our opportunities to bring Goop's positive energy directly to consumers in what they read, what they try, what they buy and how they live," Gwyneth said in a statement.

She also posted an Instagram photo featuring herself and Gersh looking like BFFs, holding hands and laughing. "#fempire @lisagersh @goop #fortunempw," she enthusiastically captioned the snap.

Whether Paltrow's move was simple a savvy business decision or intended as a direct hit to her rival likely will remain a mystery, but one thing is pretty clear: Though Gwyneth doesn't know as much as Martha does about things like turning pipe cleaners into holiday décor, when it comes to rolling with (and dishing out) the punches, the Goop maven is a master.
