Eva Longoria Opens Up About Her Bout With Depression, Significant Weight Loss After Tony Parker Divorce

When Eva Longoria's marriage to NBA star Tony Parker didn't have the happily-ever-after ending she expected -- they divorced in 2010 -- it took a toll on her mentally and physically.

"That's probably the time I got the most compliments because I was so skinny," the petite 38-year-old actress said during an interview that will air on Friday's "Dr. Oz." "I was not eating. I was depressed. I was sad. My diet was coffee. So people kept saying, 'You look amazing. Divorce agrees with you.' And I was like, 'I don't feel good. I have no energy.'"

Longoria said that learning she was depressed was news to her -- as it's not something she had experienced before and she didn't think it was in her nature.

"I didn't know I was depressed," she continued. "I mean, I knew it was a sad moment in my life, but I wouldn't categorize myself as depressed. I'm not that. I'm an optimist about life, like, 'Didn't work? Moving on. I'm fine.' And then I went to the doctor to get some blood tests because I said something's wrong."

It turned out that her coffee diet wasn't only making her skinny -- it was taking a toll on her body.

"I was just depleted of every vitamin," she revealed. "[My doctor] said it's as if somebody took a straw and sucked everything out of your body. You don't have any iron, your liver's overacting. It was like all these things were physically wrong with my body, so I had to saturate with vitamins and kind of get back on this track."

The new diet she adopted -- her "divorce diet" -- helped her body return to normal.

"I cut out all sugar," said Longoria, a self-proclaimed foodie who has two restaurants. "I love a soda. I'm not a chocolate candy person, but I like pasta in anything. For about three months, I did a really strict no sugar diet, and I had more energy than I've ever had. My palate was different. Things tasted better."

And life continued to get better. Longoria soon jumped back into the dating the scene -- first with Eduardo Cruz and then with NFL player Mark Sanchez. However, do not add Ernesto Arguello to that list. Although she was linked to the "Ready for Love" contestant (she's an executive producer on the show) earlier this week, she's denied that they are dating.
