Ellen Page is out, proud, and in love.
At Sunday's Toronto International Film Festival premiere of her film Freeheld, the 28-year-old actress had a special guest on her arm: girlfriend Samantha Thomas. It was the first time the women, who wore coordinating tuxes for the occasion, walked the red carpet together.
It was fitting that Page picked that event to make her couple debut. The film is about a lesbian pair fighting for domestic partner rights — and the story inspired her to come out in February 2014.
“I remember thinking, Ellen, how in God’s name could you make this film and not be out?” she told Out magazine. "What's interesting to me is how long it took to make the movie — for it to finally come together — and how my internal progression toward coming out was naturally in line with it."
Her internal progression led Page to proclaim her feelings for Thomas on the red carpet Sunday night. "I'm in love," she told E! News. "Walking down the carpet holding my girlfriend's hand is pretty special. It's pretty awesome."
Page, who recently tangled with Ted Cruz over LGBT equality, has been slowly unveiling her romance with Thomas, a surfer, on Instagram lately by posing a few photos of the pretty blonde.
Last night, she added a shot of herself with Thomas and some others as the pair headed to the red carpet for their big date. "Leaving for the #tiff15 @freeheldmovie premiere with these amazing people ❤," Page wrote.
The little heart said it all.
