Designer Riccardo Tisci Defends Kim Kardashian’s Met Gala Dress

Two days after the Met Gala, people are still talking about Kim Kardashian's floral frock.

Not only was the pattern unflattering, but it was a tad too reminiscent of a hotel bedspread. And why, oh why, did she have to wear those weird matching, attached gloves? Not to mention that her overall ensemble didn't seem to jive with the punk theme at all!

As a result, the 32-year-old expectant reality star landed on many worst dressed lists.

Even actor Robin Williams weighed in on the fashion faux pas, tweeting a pic of himself wearing a a flowery dress in 1993's "Mrs. Doubtfire" beside a shot of Kardashian from the Met Gala along with the quip, "I think I wore it better!"

But the designer of the dress in question, Givenchy's Riccardo Tisci, stands by his creation. In an interview with Women's Wear Daily, Tisci explains exactly how the wardrobe decision went down.

"Kim said, 'Ricky, I love what you're doing so much, I am in your hands,'" Tisci explains. "I said, we should give her our punk moment with a romantic beautiful flower-printed dress."

Tisci never hesitated, he says, to take on the challenge of dressing a woman with a baby bump.

"I have dressed many pregnant women in the past," he notes. "People can say what they want. To me, pregnancy is the most beautiful thing in the world, and when you celebrate something, you give people flowers. I think she looked amazing. She was the most beautiful pregnant woman I dressed in my career."

The Italian designer goes on to gush that Kardashian -- and the father of her baby Kanye West -- is not just any other client.

"She is a really good friend, and I am very happy she came to the Met for the first time. I love Kim," Tisci shares. "I wanted to have a Kim Kardashian moment, because Kim always supports me. She is the future wife of a really good friend of mine. I wanted to have a moment of family … Kim, Kanye, and the baby. It will be a family that I will be close to."

Think we'll soon be debating the wardrobe choices of Kim Kardashian West?
