With the second night of the Festival of Lights upon us, it's time to celebrate another star who lit up our year: Chris Pratt. In addition to being Anna Faris's baby daddy — and, ICYMI, her husband — he's recently transformed from lovable goofball to powerful leading man, both on-screen and off. But don't worry; he's also still a lovable goofball.
We Celebrate His Chutzpah: It takes a lot of guts to decide to bring life into this world, and Pratt and wife Anna Faris did just that. For them, however, the road to parenthood was especially challenging, as their son Jack was born nine weeks early. But Chris rose to the occasion and showed he had chutzpah to spare, opening up during the March of Dimes Celebration of Babies Hollywood luncheon with touching honesty about his desire to do right by his son.
"It was just the best feeling I've ever had," Pratt shared about embracing his son while he was still in the NICU. "My little boy just laying across my neck and chest, and feeling my heart beat and feeling the love. I played him country music and I sang to him, and I made him promises in that moment… about what kind of dad I wanted to be and I just prayed that he'd live long enough to let me keep them."
We Celebrate His Mitzvoth: In addition to his work with March of Dimes, Pratt made one of the best ALS Ice Bucket Challenge videos of the year. It involved doing a shot of something magical called Blue Ice Vodka and pounding a bottle of Smirnoff Ice. Oh, and Anna also participated by dumping ice water on him. Repeatedly.
We Celebrate the Miracle of Chris: Hollywood is a town built on rankings, and once your name has been inked on the B list (or the C list), it's all but impossible to jump up to the A list — but not for Pratt. In 2014, the resident funny man managed to defy the odds and manifest a true acting ascension. He continued his solid work on TV's fan-favorite Parks and Recreation, but it was nailing starring roles in two of the biggest films of the year, The Lego Movie and Guardians of the Galaxy, which marked the true turning point in his career. We also feel obligated to give a shout-out to his mind-blowing physical transformation. He started the year with a beer gut. He ended it with a six-pack. How many of us can say that? (Spoiler alert: not many.)
And let's not forget, he did all of this while still staying tied to his comedy roots. Pratt will welcome 2015 as an action star who can still rock a karaoke version of "5,000 Candles in the Wind." If that's not miraculous, we don't know what is.
