So far, motherhood sounds like a piece of cake for Blake Lively. Are you really surprised?

The former Gossip Girl star, 27, and her husband Ryan Reynolds, 38, welcomed their first child, a baby girl, together last month. Details including the little one's name have been kept under wraps, but Lively opened up to People about her new journey.

"This is the happiest time in my life, and I could say that every day," the Preserve founder tells the magazine. "I often feel like, 'I can't believe I'm experiencing this.' And that can be a big moment like my wedding day or a simple afternoon in front of the fire. I know how fortunate I am. And I'm excited to see the entire journey that my family is going to go on."

Being a mom doesn't "feel like it's a massive change" according to the actress. "I've always wanted a big family, and I understand that feeling when you have your first kid of, 'Let's really be present in this.'"

Blake continued, "I do want to just enjoy this moment… but I also feel like my first child is going to be the oldest sibling to the next kid, and that may change with each and every year. You don't just raise your kids, your kids also raise each other — oh my Lord, the things I learned from my brother Eric. He's influenced my life so much. So, I'm looking forward to how one baby influences the other, and to my family as a whole, to every single chapter."

Lively is the youngest of five in a blended family but says, "I've always felt like a mama."

"I'm always teasing my sisters' kids that they are my own, and I'm always taking care of other people's kids," she explains. "Maybe because I didn't grow up with little siblings, I've been making up for lost time."

Blake's parents are reportedly staying at her and Ryan's home in Bedford, New York, while the couple  who have been married since 2012  gets situated.

The Age of Adaline star discussed how her mother was such an important figure in her life growing up.

"I was raised by a woman who was eternally optimistic," she says. "Nearly every day my mom will leave me a voice mail saying, 'Life is a bowl of cherries,' or singing songs. She came from humble beginnings, but if you told her she'd experienced hardship, she'd say, 'I have not!' She chose happiness and she taught me to do the same every day."

Balancing an acting career, her Preserve website, and family won't be difficult according to Blake.

"I have a clear understanding of my priorities, my family, and my personal life," she says. "And everything I do must make room for that."
