Sorry ladies, Sherlock is a married man. And a romantic one at that.
Benedict Cumberbatch wed Sophie Hunter on Saturday on the Isle of Wight in England. Their Valentine's Day nuptials come one week before the 38-year-old Best Actor nominee is set to walk the Oscars red carpet back in Los Angeles.
The wedding took place at St. Peter and St. Paul's Church in Mottistone, People reports.
A reception followed at Mottistone Manor.
The Imitation Game star and Hunter, a 36-year-old actress and director, revealed their engagement in November in a very old-fashioned way. "The engagement is announced between Benedict, son of Wanda and Timothy Cumberbatch of London, and Sophie, daughter of Katharine Hunter of Edinburgh and Charles Hunter of London," read a post in in London's The Times.
Two months later, a rep for the actor shared more happy news from the couple: "I am delighted to confirm that Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are expecting their first child. They are both over the moon."
Benedict met his future wife in 2009 while shooting the thriller Burlesque Fairytales, but they weren't outed as a couple until April 2013.
Although Cumberbatch keeps his lips zipped regarding his personal life, he did hint that marriage and fatherhood was something he'd like eventually.
"I can imagine I'll look back at this point in my life and think: 'Wow that was really extraordinary,'" he told Elle last year. "But at the same time I hope I'm looking back and going, 'Oh, that was the moment I got on with life and realized things beyond myself.' Without using words like 'marriage,' 'children' and 'family' — although I have just used those words — put it this way, I hope I've got other people to look back with me at that point. I hope I'm surrounded by family."
This is the first marriage for both Cumberbatch and Hunter.
