Costly New Couture for Celebrity Kids

Those seeking signs of an economic recovery need look no further than Hollywood's junior fashionistas.

It used to be that the offspring of the rich and famous would wear any old elastic-waist pants. Nowadays, those privileged kids know how to pronounce Prada before they're old enough to drive a car (or a bicycle, for that matter).

When Madonna hit the red carpet of a New York City movie premiere in December, she wore a chic Dolce & Gabbana dress. Not to be outdone by her stylish parent, daughter Lourdes stepped up in her own $2,000 outfit from the designer's Spring Summer 2010 runway. The 13-year-old strutted her stuff in a $725 shirt paired with a $1,295 skirt.

To be fair, Lourdes' upscale duds may have actually fallen within the budget of her weekly allowance. Mama Madonna is also the face of the clothing line, which means she may have been able to score the mini-me look for a discount.

Lourdes isn't the only kid whose annual clothing allowance could approach the rate of college tuition. During a Paris shopping spree with papa Brad Pitt earlier this week, Zahara Jolie-Pitt wore a $330 double-breasted Alice + Olivia jacket. Meanwhile, Zahara's sister, Shiloh, was seen diligently sticking to a budget. Who knows what Angie and Brad shelled out for her new pixie haircut, but the stylish fedora she recently wore is only $27.95.

Fashion-fantastic Suri Cruise, ever a fan of lip-gloss and high heels, topped the high-end tot couture list. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' 3-year-old daughter, who has already received requests from PETA to boycott Giorgio Armani furs, was recently spotted carrying an $800 Salvatore Ferragamo "Sofia" purse. If that wasn't extravagant enough, Suri was clutching the designer purse as she boarded a private helicopter bound for Jamaica. The handbag is a junior-sized version of mother Katie's $1,850 purse, and a gift from the designer label.

And Zahara Jolie-Pitt may already be wondering where she can get her hands on that bag.
