Blink-182 get emotional about cancer and their friendship on new song 'One More Time'

No streaking. No dressing up like the Backstreet Boys. No handing out cash on the street. In the music video for their new single, "One More Time," Blink-182 are wearing their emotions on their sleeves from the first strum as Tom DeLonge sings, "Strangers, from strangers into brothers / From brothers into strangers once again."
A song about their reunion as a band and as friends, "One More Time" is the second single off the album of the same name, due to be released next month. This marks the first time the three original members — DeLonge, Mark Hoppus, and Travis Barker — have released a new record since 2011, and a lot of life has happened since then.
It's all laid bare in the track. "I wish they told us it shouldn't take a sickness / Or airplanes falling out the sky," Hoppus sings, referencing his 2021 lymphoma diagnosis and Barker's 2008 plane crash.
The video transports the band through big moments in their career with familiar backdrops — the bank vault from "The Rock Show" music video, MTV's Total Request Live set, the Warped Tour, and other familiar locations — before seguing into a string of archival clips from their youth.
While the band is best known for juvenile antics like running around naked or naming an album Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, they've had some serious turns, sprinkling emotional fare into their albums and juxtaposing songs like "Happy Holidays, You Bastard" with "Stay Together for the Kids."

"Do I have to die to hear you miss me? / Do I have to die to hear you say goodbye? / I don't want to act like there's tomorrow / I don't wanna do this one more time," DeLonge sings on "One More Time," a fitting choice for a comeback single. "I gotta say I love you while we're here," Hoppus and DeLonge add in unison before the song dives back into the chorus.
The band announced their reunion in October 2022 with the single "Edging" and the announcement that they'd embark on a world tour that would keep them playing together until the spring of 2024. In the years since DeLonge left in 2015, Hoppus and Barker have continued to record and tour as Blink-182, replacing DeLonge with Alkaline Trio's Matt Skiba.
"I remember telling my wife now, like, 'I don't think I'm ever gonna play music again, I don't think I'm ever gonna tour again,'" DeLonge said in a teaser for an extended interview with Apple Music's Zane Lowe released on Monday. "Until Mark told me he was sick, and then I was like, that was the only thing I wanna do."
"When he told me he was sick, that was like the gnarliest… nothing matters, really," the guitarist and vocalist said. "It wasn't about fame or money or how big Blink was or anything. It was like, 'You're gonna get through this s---, and we're gonna go dominate.'"
