'Blindsided' Vanessa Lachey Breaks Silence on 'NCIS Hawai'i' Cancellation

Vanessa Lachey is reacting to the news that NCIS: Hawai'i has unfortunately been canceled.

Lachey, who starred as the franchise's first female lead, found out about the show's cancellation with the rest of the world on Friday, April 26, later taking to her Instagram Story to share how she felt about the disappointing news.

"Gutted, confused, blindsided," the actress wrote alongside a graphic of an "NCIS HI" logo, while also noting that she still feels "grateful, confident" and appreciative of her "beloved fans."

"Processing this news and still being present with my family," the mom of three wrote, adding, "I Love You all!"

She concluded the post by writing, "Mahalo Nui Loa," which translates to "Thank you very much."

After landing the NCIS: Hawai'i gig in 2021, Lachey 43, relocated to O'ahu, Hawaii, bringing along her husband Nick Lachey and their three children, Camden John, Brooklyn Elisabeth and Phoenix Robert.

The actress was loved for her role as Jane Tennant on the island-based NCIS spinoff, and her fans definitely weren't happy to hear that CBS decided to cancel the show after just three seasons.

"I’m most upset for Vanessa Lachey :( this was HER show !!!" one person wrote on X. "They make a huge deal about her being the first female lead of an ncis show and then axe it without a care in the world."

Other fans have since voiced their outrage at the network's decision to cancel the show—which has been praised for its representation—especially since the announcement came during Lesbian Visibility Week. (The show notably features a lesbian couple made up of two principal characters, Kate Whistler (Tori Anderson) and Lucy Tara (Yasmine Al-Bustami.)

Fans also pointed out that the cancellation news comes just days before the beginning of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Month in May.

Fans have even started a petition on Change.org to try and save the show, while the hashtag, #SaveNCISHawaii has been floating around online.

"Beyond its impact on individual viewers, NCIS: Hawaii has also brought together a diverse fandom community that spans across ages and backgrounds," the petition reads in part, while further accusing CBS of "rob[bing] many viewers of these important representations and narratives."

The petition asks that CBS continue to produce more seasons of NCIS: Hawai'i or to "at least" make a proper farewell season, though CBS has agreed to no such plans at this time.

NCIS: Hawai'i's series finale is set to air Monday, May 6, at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
