Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson never land the right harmony on The Voice,” but that’s music to Blake’s ears.

The friction between the two coaches came to a head during the fourth round of blind auditions Tuesday when singer Chloe Abbott scored a chair turn from Chance the Rapper with her breezy cover of “How Deep Is Your Love” by The Bee Gees.

In an attempt to connect with Abbott, a track-and-field athlete training for the 2024 Olympics, Shelton joked about his own athletic prowess of “training for the U.S. curling team.”

Clarkson had enough of Shelton’s deception, calling on host Carson Daly to bring out a lie-detector machine. “Is anybody else just sick of Blake lying?” she said.

In the test, Clarkson asked Shelton if she is his favorite coach on the NBC singing competition, while Daly asked if former coach Gwen Stefani married him out of “sheer pity.” Shelton only answered honestly to Daly’s question with “probably, yes.”

“It’s exciting to have Kelly back because when she’s gone, I really don’t have anybody to truly fight with,” Shelton said. “And when she’s here, the fight is on.”

Here’s what else went down during Tuesday’s episode.

Blake Shelton gives last-minute chair turn to get on Kelly Clarkson’s nerves

Texas singer Marcos Covos won over Clarkson and Shelton with his soaring rendition of the ranchera standard “Tú, Sólo Tú” (“You, Only You”).

“I love when people come out here and sing in Spanish. It’s my favorite language to listen to,” Clarkson said. “It was so gorgeous. I am such a fan of you.”

However, Shelton’s last-minute chair turn for Covos frustrated Clarkson, prompting her to walk over to his chair and hit him with her Team Kelly jacket.

“Believe it or not, I don’t speak Spanish, but your voice is incredible,” Shelton told the 30-year-old. “Just seeing the audience reaction, I was like, ‘Man, I don’t know what’s going on back here, but I know it’s damn good, and I want to be a part of it.’”

But Shelton’s bid was too little, too late, with Covos choosing Clarkson as his coach.

“I knew there was no way I was going to beat Kelly on that one, but it made me happy to see her get that mad at me for a second,” Shelton said.

Blake Shelton bests Kelly Clarkson despite flubbing singer’s home state

Teen vocalist Mary Kate Connor dazzled with her emotional performance of “Stars” by Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, earning chair turns from both Clarkson and Shelton.

“I loved how beautiful and tender it was,” Clarkson said, likening Connor to a “younger Brandi Carlile.” “I really want you on Team Kelly.”

While praising the Virginia native’s “soft and angelic” voice, Shelton mistakenly referred to Connor’s home state as North Carolina instead. “I knew where you were from,” Clarkson replied. “I’m a coach that listens.”

“North Carolina, Kentucky, Virginia, there’s a thing that happens up there, and it’s an Americana thing,” Shelton continued. “And you can hear it in your approach because you do swing for the fence with that song.”

Shelton’s lapse didn’t cost him in the end, as Connor chose to join Team Blake.

“Blake is killing it his last season. I suspected that that would happen,” Clarkson said. “Don’t tell him I said this, but…he’s the king of ‘The Voice.’”
